Dr Drang posted today about his choice to stick with Pages over TextEdit leancrew.com/all-this/…

My first rich text editor was Microsoft Word. My mum forced me to finish a short Word course when I was in my high school years. Our teacher was demanding; we had to edit a giant document with thousands of pages. It was hard labour. I learned about layout and styles there and use this knowledge still.

Word has a large toolbar, while Pages uses both the toolbar and sidebar for controls. Pages’ UI affords more vertical space for document rendering, as well as providing options to configure the interface. I put most frequently used commands in toolbars, hiding and showing the sidebar when necessary. For example, if I need 2 windows side by side. Pages' UI is fundamentally superior to Word’s. It looks good and it’s more powerful.

What about TextEdit? I only use it for plain text editing. I wish there was a permanent setting to keep it in plain text editing mode. The command + shift + T shortcut is in my muscle memory.
